We were all scrambling to look for things. In the end we were all just texting neighbours to see if anyone could help. By doing that we realised that the eager to help neighbours were further texting friends to find solutions. Likeminded groups formed communities to share, search and barter. Cooop aims to help give these communities a platform that’s is trustworthy, reliable & fast.
You could just have moved into a neighbourhood and have no clue about where things are placed. Just ask each other on Cooop. We’ve ourselives lived alone on rent for a long time now and had to move a lot of neighbourhoods. We would have benefited greatly if we could interact with our neighbours for something as small as finding a key maker at night when we were locked out in our boxers. It just felt odd knocking at someone’s door at that hour hoping no one calls the clops claiming the chaddi baniyan gang has breached the perimeter.
We wanted to build a community platform where you weren’t competing for which neighbour makes the best food or for that matter has the most knowledge of the hood. A neighbourhood is made up of hundreds of people with different tastes, different knowledge, different beliefs, ideas, passions, professions. Yet in all of this difference lay similarities that criss cross across each other. You could have different beliefs but enjoy the same music, different tastes in food but love pani puri unanimously the most or have separate professions but enjoy cycling.
We all intersect at junctions and Cooop helps those standing alone at those intersections find other people around standing there too – for just asking, sharing, searching – doing things that communities do. Because we believe that if you can give people control of their neighbourhoods back in their hands, the world would be a better place, one neighbourhood at a time.
Cooop connects people within a 1.5km radius of their home. You can ask, search share or post things on the platform like a community noticeboard.
Cooop is our little effort to find ways to bring the community closer. The lockdown made us realise that we’ve hardly known our neighours but yet in times of utter isolation & self reliance, it was the neighbourhood to the rescue.
From collecting your parcel, to watering your plants when you’re not around, neighbours live closer than family & sometimes they become family.
At Cooop we’re trying to be the bridge between neighbours. We (this brother sister duo) strongly believe – If only we knew our neighbours better, we’d probably find all what we need right within our hood.
Lover of all things community since the beginning. From organizing music festivals, mass environment campaigns to becoming an architect without studying architecture – Keith is ready for a hot cup of chai any time of the day or night.
Co-founder of Cooop and a new media artist with a passion for Art-Science is an avid traveller working towards building interaction design between local & global communities. When she’s not saving animals, she’s dreaming of being on Mars.
